What are the first steps?
Call our office at (262) 251-2929 and set up an appointment for a free initial evaluation. During the initial visit, we’ll ask that you fill out an initial questionnaire- this takes about 20 minutes. One of our certified practitioners will review the results with you, and then discuss your concerns, symptoms, and determine whether neurofeedback training may be appropriate for your unique situation. At this time, they will answer any of your questions about how neurofeedback works and how it can help you.
If you agree that neurofeedback is a good fit for you, the next step is to get a brain map or qEEG. This test is painless, and the results are used to set up your personal protocol to address the symptoms you are experiencing. After that, the actual training begins. Neurofeedback training sessions are typically done twice a week for 30 minutes at a time.
What happens during a normal neurofeedback session?
After the brain map has been done, we will design a protocol to help you with the symptoms you are experiencing. Most appointments last about 30 minutes and involve a relaxing session watching a video or movie while wearing a few electronic sensors on your scalp. Headphones for the audio and a specialized set of photic-entrainment glasses are also utilized in most cases.
Why is a brain map needed?
If you are planning to participate in neurofeedback training, an initial brain map or Quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG) is needed. Think of it as a “brain fitness evaluation.” The results are used to create a personalized training protocol. It is painless and consists of wearing a cap with sensors on it. The process takes about 30 minutes. It assesses the four basic brainwaves so we can see what areas of your brain may be helped by bringing them into balance.
When will I start feeling better?
Most, as a rule, patients notice improvements after 6-8 sessions, typically done over 3-4 weeks.
Does neurofeedback affect my personality?
No. Neurofeedback training sessions are designed to help you develop new, more efficient pathways. It can help you to be calmer, more resilient to stress, and even think more clearly overall. It will not change your hobbies, interests, or who you are. It will just make it easier!
Are neurofeedback session results long-lasting?
Yes. In the same way, you learned a new skill like riding a bicycle, our patients finish their treatment regimen and do not typically need to return. However, there is no end to the total improvement that can be achieved using this training. Neuroplasticity remains viable during our whole lifetime. So, some people do come in later for a “tune-up” or to further increase their brain`s efficiency.
Does neurofeedback interfere with my medications?
Neurofeedback training is a natural process. As a result, there are no side effects, allowing you to continue with your medication regimen. Over time, our goal is to work with you and your prescribing physician to determine if you may be able to reduce or eliminate medications, based on your results.
Are there any side effects?
No. Neurofeedback training is a natural, non-invasive activity.
Do you take insurance?
Health insurance does not cover brain mapping or neurofeedback training. However, we offer multiple financing options and accept payments from Health Savings Accounts (HSA), Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA).
