Symptoms of Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety can take many forms, sometimes manifesting physically in the form of back pain, headaches, migraines or numbness and tingling. You may experience a rapid heart rate, constipation and diarrhea, or even panic attacks, which for some people can have a similar feeling to a heart attack.

Individuals dealing with stress and anxiety may struggle with:

  • Getting healthy restful sleep
  • Relaxing and enjoying social situations
  • Feeling 'frozen' or unable to complete basic daily tasks
  • Repetitive worries, questions or uncomfortable thoughts
  • Feeling dizzy or light-headed
  • Low sex drive
  • Weight gain
  • Easily strained or pulled muscles

Symptoms of stress-induced adrenal fatigue

One of the most common signs of hormone-induced stress is the sensation of feeling “wired and tired.” This means that even though you are awake and may feel jittery, there is still a lingering feeling of fatigue. Increased levels of stress are often linked to adrenal fatigue, as well as symptoms related to stress and anxiety.

The cause of adrenal fatigue

Your adrenal glands (located on top of the kidneys) are responsible for producing adrenaline. Adrenaline is a hormone that kicks in when you’re in a dangerous or stressful situation. If someone is chronically stressed, then the adrenal glands can become overworked.

As your body recognizes the dysfunction in your adrenal glands, it initially tries to overcompensate by working harder to push out more adrenaline. The additional adrenaline may cause bouts of anxiety or even panic attacks. Elevated adrenaline levels can lead to your body producing more cortisol, a stress hormone. Higher levels of cortisol can then lead to further sleep disruption.

All-natural remedies for stress

Staying on top of your adrenal health is a key factor in maintaining or improving your quality of life, sleep, weight and overall wellness. Regular maintenance checks and naturopathic medicine can help measure your adrenal health and spot adrenal challenges before they become major issues.

REAL Customer Testimonials & Reviews

Almost 3 years ago now, I had horrible fatigue, back pain, neck pain, chest pain, horrible stomach pain, migraines, pain in my neck, troubles sleeping, depression, and half the food I ate made everything worse. I couldn’t function normal half the days of the week. My normal doctor just diagnosed me as having IBS. Total Health found what was actually wrong with my body (root problems not symptoms) and treated those problems with natural solutions. It took at least 6 months before I noticed significant changes. But, today I have no ongoing pain anymore and depression issues. I got my life back, ... Read More

What was it like before you came to see us? I have been a healthy eater yet I had been up and down in weight for 3 years. I had been losing and gaining in Weight Watchers. I realized when I ate sugar, I craved it more and ate it often. My lower abdomen was usually distended and painful for a long time. I would eat and I would bloat. I felt very tired and stressed most of the time. I slept often and had low energy during the day. I was feeling somewhat depressed and frustrated with feeling so lethargic and stressed. How is it now? After 3 months of following the eating plan and supplements, I a... Read More

I have no gas, my knees don’t hurt at all, my depression is at least 75% better, I have more energy and I’ve lost 12lbs. What was it like before you came to see us? I was in my sixties, when I heard about Total Health Natural Medicine Clinic. I was overweight, asthmatic, tired, and prone to anxiety. In fact I was so tired that I always had to decide whether I would take a nap before or after a job – or both! I also felt anxious over activities that had never bothered me before – even though seven grandchildren were a good excuse to feel anxiety. At my last doctor’s appointment, my cholesterol and blood sugar levels had risen too. At my age, I knew I had to make a commitment to improve my health.   How is it now?... Read More

What was your health like before you came to see us? Physically, I was overweight and my joints were stiff and sore. I had “brain fog” at various times and became easily overwhelmed at perceived difficult tasks or events. My emotions or feelings would be on an up and down cycle, with sometimes overeating to various life events. Also, my skin was dry around my eyes and hands. How is your health now? My weight has decreased (and this wasn’t my number 1 goal!) I am no longer experiencing stiffness or pain in my joints. I’m waking up in the morning feeling more rested. My ‘brain fog’ has disappear... Read More

What was it like before you came in to see us? Before coming in, I had a lot of difficulty with anxiety, bloating, headaches. All around feeling lousy! I seemed to have very little energy and after walking up two flights of stairs, I would be breathless! I also ate a lot of the wrong foods. Too much sugar. I had a nervous feeling all the time. How is it now? After sticking with the new eating habits and taking supplements, I can honestly say I feel 100% better. I would recommend anyone who wants to improve their health and overall well-being to come and see Dr. Johnson. You won’t regret it. I ... Read More
