How inflammation works
Inflammation triggers an immune response when the body is injured or sick. The proteins & enzymes secreted to facilitate an inflammatory response signal where your body should send nutrients & white blood cells. Inflammation is a process designed to keep our bodies healthy—and it generally works.
Exposure to toxins is one way that inflammation is triggered in the body. Our environment includes toxins that humans should not be exposed to—processed foods, chemicals, plastics, pesticides & more.
Causes of chronic inflammation
Constant exposure to toxins causes our cells to become inflamed. Some inflammatory triggers have an affinity for fat—one of the main components of cell walls. Substances such as hydrogenated fats stay in the body long-term and cause plaque buildup on the cell wall.
The cell cannot function properly because of the buildup so it becomes inflamed to trigger an immune response. This is called chronic inflammation. Reducing exposure to triggers can help prevent chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation may be linked to a number of diseases including:
- Heart disease
- Stroke
- Lupus
- Rheumatoid arthritis
